Padel People - Shepton Mallet

Padel People - Shepton Mallet is Somerset’s first dedicated indoor padel facility, opened in autumn 2025 at Unit 1, Evercreech, Shepton Mallet BA4 6LX. The venue sits a short drive south of the A37 and within easy reach of Frome, Glastonbury, Wells and Yeovil, with the A303 a few miles south.

Founded by George Sandbach with co-founder James Rock, a former British Pro Singles champion, the club is the sixth location in the Padel People UK network. The brand’s stated mission is to keep the sport affordable and welcoming, with no external investors and a deliberately community-led approach rather than a premium positioning.

The padel courts

The venue runs four indoor courts under a single roof, with three full-size panoramic doubles courts (Padel 1, 2 and 3) and one singles court (Padel 4). All four sit on the same playing surface specification used across the Padel People network, lit with even indoor lighting and protected from Somerset’s weather all year round.

The panoramic builds give clear sightlines for spectators in the social area, which makes the venue a sensible choice for league nights and informal viewing. The dedicated singles court is unusual outside London and adds a faster, more cardiovascular format for two-player matches and one-to-one coaching.

Booking and access at Padel People - Shepton Mallet

Court hire starts from around £20 per hour for off-peak doubles and £12 per hour for off-peak singles, with peak doubles slots rising to roughly £32 to £40 per hour. Live rates and 60 or 90 minute slot availability show at the booking step on Playtomic, which is the venue’s primary booking channel.

Members pay £25 per month and receive 20 per cent off all bookings plus a 28 day forward booking window, which is useful for locking in peak weekend slots. The Padel People standard cancellation window applies via Playtomic, and pay-and-play access is available for casual visitors without a membership.

Opening hours run 05:00 to midnight every day of the week, supporting early-morning sessions before work and late finishes for shift workers and clubs. Programme and social padel

The venue runs a regular schedule of mix-in sessions, club nights and internal tournaments aimed at all abilities, in line with the Padel People model used at sister sites in Corsham, Boston, Basingstoke, Sedlescombe and Wimbledon.

New players are paired with more experienced regulars, and a local WhatsApp community group is used to coordinate doubles partners and last-minute slots across the week.

Beyond competitive padel the social side is central to the venue identity, with comfortable seating, a self-serve coffee machine and on-site vending stocked with rackets, balls, snacks and soft drinks. Toilet facilities and a reception desk sit alongside the social area for between-match downtime.

The venue runs coaching through the Padel People coaching team for all abilities, from absolute beginners through to tournament-standard players. The venue is a strong fit for Somerset and Mendip-based players who previously had to travel to Bath, Bristol or Bournemouth for indoor courts. The dedicated singles court also suits competitive two-player matches and one-to-one lessons in a way most UK venues cannot offer.
