About Castle Padel Club

Castle Padel Club is a new four-court padel venue arriving at Sandal RUFC, Standbridge Lane, Wakefield WF2 7DY, with opening targeted for June 2026. The site sits just off the A636 Denby Dale Road and around ten minutes from Junction 39 of the M1.

That position gives easy access from Sandal Magna, Horbury, Crigglestone and the wider Wakefield district, as well as south Leeds. Planning permission was granted by Wakefield Council in May 2026 after a strongly supported application backed by the Rugby Football Union.

The club is a dedicated padel facility hosted on rugby club land, with courts built on a section previously used for overflow parking. Pre-launch updates and sign-ups are handled through the Castle Padel Club website, and sponsorship enquiries go to contact@castlepadelclub.com.

The padel courts

Castle Padel Club opens with four outdoor double padel courts in a full panoramic glass design. Each court measures approximately 20m by 10m to the standard international specification, with 4m high tempered glass walls for clear sightlines and a true Spanish-style playing feel.

The courts are floodlit by perimeter lighting columns, so evening sessions will run reliably through the darker UK months. As outdoor courts they sit fully open to the sky, which keeps the bounce lively in dry weather and gives a fresh-air club feel rather than a warehouse-style indoor build.

The build is doubles only - there are no singles courts planned at launch. Court surface and brand details are expected to be confirmed in the weeks before opening, alongside the final court numbering on the Playtomic booking grid.

Booking and access

All court time at Castle Padel Club is sold on a pay-and-play basis through Playtomic, with live rates and availability shown on the booking step. You can book a court on Playtomic once bookings open for the June 2026 launch.

The club also appears in the Playtomic app once you search Castle Padel Club Wakefield. Planned opening hours are 07:00 to 22:00 Monday to Friday, and 08:00 to 22:00 on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays, giving long playing windows on both sides of the working day.

The site has free on-site parking, with access via the existing Sandal RUFC entrance on Standbridge Lane. Standard Playtomic cancellation rules apply, with full refunds typically available outside the venue’s published cut-off window. For account, booking or sponsorship queries, email contact@castlepadelclub.com.

Padel programme and social

The venue is being built as a community padel hub for Wakefield. The plan covers mixed-level open play sessions, social mix-ins and competitive ladder formats once the courts go live, with the Playtomic Matches engine surfacing open games at the right level for each player.

That model suits newer players who do not yet have a regular group of four, as well as more competitive locals looking for ranked games. Junior sessions, leagues and a club coaching programme are also planned for launch, with confirmed timings published on the Castle Padel Club website mailing list and on Instagram at @castle.padel.

The on-site cafe and bar area, changing rooms, equipment hire and pro shop complete the offer, alongside the existing Sandal RUFC clubhouse facilities next door for post-match food and drinks.

Best for padel in Wakefield

Castle Padel Club is best suited to Wakefield, Sandal Magna and south Leeds players who want a dedicated panoramic outdoor padel set-up. Proper floodlights, free parking and an on-site cafe make it an easy weekday-evening or weekend morning option.

It is also a strong fit for Sandal RUFC members and the wider Wakefield rugby community looking for a year-round racket sport alongside the winter season, and for parents wanting a structured junior pathway in a club environment.

It is less ideal for players who specifically need indoor courts for wet-weather guarantees, or for groups looking for singles courts - the build is full doubles only. For confirmed pricing, the coaching team and the exact opening day, watch the website and Instagram feed in the weeks before launch.
