Chapel Allerton Lawn Tennis & Squash Club

Chapel Allerton Lawn Tennis & Squash Club is a long-established multi-sport club at Wensley Avenue, Chapel Allerton, Leeds LS7 3QX, founded in 1880. Padel was added to the offer in August 2023 with two outdoor courts under a canopy that provides weather protection while keeping natural ventilation. The padel build sits alongside three indoor tennis courts, twelve outdoor tennis courts (including four grass courts), six squash courts and a fully equipped gym - which makes Chapel A one of very few venues in the UK to combine four racket disciplines plus gym under a single membership.

The courts

Two outdoor padel courts at Chapel Allerton, both under a canopy that gives weather shelter without the cost or feel of a fully enclosed indoor build. The synthetic surface follows standard padel specification and the courts are floodlit for evening play. The covered design means most rain and wind is not an issue, though hard winter conditions can still affect outdoor sessions - check on the day for any cancellations.

Booking and access

Court hire is bookable through the club’s online booking platform. Visitors can book up to 5 days in advance at £40 per hour; members benefit from extended booking windows and reduced rates as part of their membership. Racket hire is available at the venue if you don’t bring your own. Chapel Allerton sits in north Leeds in the LS7 postcode, with on-site parking and good public transport links from the city centre. For direct enquiries call +44 113 226 6622 or visit chapel-a.co.uk.

Programme and social

In-house coaching at Chapel Allerton covers all playing standards from beginners to advanced. Group lessons start at £7.50 per person and run up to £10 depending on group size, and one-to-one coaching is also available - email coaching@chapel-a.co.uk or call the club for current rates. Members can book lessons up to 7 days ahead through the members’ online area. Social padel sessions and mix-ins run through the calendar, building an active community alongside the club’s existing tennis and squash members. Over 75 padel-specific members joined within the first weeks of the courts opening, which gives a sense of the local appetite.

Best for

North Leeds players who want padel alongside tennis, squash and gym under a single multi-sport membership, with structured coaching and a long-established club community. Cheaper group lessons (£7.50+) make it a strong option for newcomers who want to learn properly. Less suited to players wanting all-weather indoor padel - the canopy gives shelter but it’s still an outdoor build.
