What is Premier Padel?

Premier Padel is the elite professional padel circuit launched in 2022 by the International Padel Federation in partnership with Qatar Sports Investments. The tour runs a global calendar of premier-tier events, with prize money and ranking points awarded to top finishers. Premier Padel sits above the CUPRA FIP Tour in the world-tour pyramid.

When did it launch?

Premier Padel ran its first season in 2022. Before that, the World Padel Tour (WPT) was the dominant professional circuit, but the players’ association and the FIP launched Premier Padel as an FIP-sanctioned alternative. By 2024 the major WPT events had migrated, and the unified Premier Padel + CUPRA FIP Tour structure became the official world tour.

How does the ranking work?

Players earn points across both Premier Padel and CUPRA FIP Tour events. The FIP combines the best results across both tiers to produce the official world ranking. Top-ranked pairs qualify for the biggest events. The ranking determines seeding at the year-end finals and qualification for premier-tier tournaments.

Coach tip: Watching Premier Padel coverage is one of the fastest ways to improve as an amateur. You see professional positioning, shot selection, and pattern play in context, which is harder to learn from any coaching video.

Common mistakes

Casual fans sometimes confuse Premier Padel with the old World Padel Tour (WPT). WPT was the historical pro circuit; Premier Padel is the current FIP-sanctioned tour that succeeded it. The two structures merged in practice by 2024, with Premier Padel now the de facto top tier.

Who owns Premier Padel?
Premier Padel is run as a partnership between the FIP (the sport’s global governing body) and Qatar Sports Investments. QSI provides commercial backing; the FIP provides sporting governance and integrates the tour into the official world ranking.
Is Premier Padel the same as the World Padel Tour?
No, but in practice the two have merged. World Padel Tour was the historical pro circuit run by Setpoint Events. Premier Padel launched in 2022 as the FIP-sanctioned alternative. By 2024 the major WPT events had moved across, making Premier Padel the de facto unified top tier.
Where can I watch Premier Padel?
Premier Padel coverage is broadcast on Premier Padel’s own streaming platform and on regional rights-holding broadcasters depending on the territory. Check premierpadel.com for the current rights-holder in your country.
