Akebar Park

Akebar Park is a 128-acre holiday park and country estate near Leyburn, North Yorkshire, that has added two outdoor padel courts to its sporting offer. The full address is Akebar Park, Leyburn, North Yorkshire, DL8 5LY, sitting on the A684 between Bedale and Leyburn, about seven miles west of the A1 at Leeming Bar.

The courts launched on Monday 25 May 2026 alongside the park’s existing 18-hole golf course, on-site pub The Friars Head and holiday lodge accommodation. Day visitors are welcome alongside park guests. For more on the wider site see the akebar park padel page.

The padel courts

Akebar Park has two outdoor padel courts built to the standard 20m by 10m doubles specification with full glass back walls and mesh side panels. The pair sit within the wider parkland on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, giving an unusually scenic backdrop for a session.

Both courts are floodlit to allow play through to the 22:00 close. The surface appears to be standard outdoor synthetic turf with silica sand infill, the usual specification for new UK club builds. Wind exposure is moderate given the open parkland setting, so check the forecast for blustery Dales weather before booking.

Booking and access

All bookings go through the Playtomic app. Book a court on Playtomic up to 30 days in advance, with slots from 06:00 to 22:00 every day of the week. Standard Playtomic cancellation rules apply, typically a full refund 24 hours ahead and partial credit closer to the slot.

Live rates show at the booking step on Playtomic and vary by peak and off-peak demand. Most new UK outdoor clubs sit in the £24 to £40 per court range for a 60 or 90 minute slot, roughly £6 to £10 per player on a four-ball. Confirm the exact figure for your chosen time in the app.

Padel programme and social

The padel offer at Akebar Park is open to the public as well as park guests, with no membership required. Pay-and-play through Playtomic suits casual groups, weekend visitors and players staying at the lodges or caravan pitches on site.

Coaching is delivered by Steve Anderson, a BPCA-affiliated Pro Level Coach (member ID 908). After play, The Friars Head pub and restaurant sits on the same site for food, drinks and post-match debriefs. The combination of courts, pub and golf course gives Akebar Park scope to host informal mix-ins, family afternoons and short padel breaks combined with a stay in the holiday accommodation.

Best for padel in Leyburn

Akebar Park suits Yorkshire Dales locals from Leyburn, Bedale, Richmond and Northallerton who want a nearby outdoor court without driving to Harrogate or Leeds. It also works well for holiday park guests wanting an active hour between walks, golf rounds and pub stops, and for visiting groups combining padel with a short break in the Dales.

It is less suited to players chasing covered indoor play through the worst of the Yorkshire winter, or to those wanting a deep tournament and league calendar from day one.
