About Play Padel Sheffield
Play Padel Sheffield sits at Abbeydale Tennis Club on Abbeydale Road South, four premium indoor padel courts (three doubles plus one singles) co-owned by England cricket star Joe Root and Rotherham United goalkeeper Cameron Dawson. The build opened March 2025 as Sheffield’s first dedicated indoor padel club, with the singles court especially rare in the UK indoor scene.
The courts
Four indoor panoramic padel courts at the Abbeydale Tennis Club site: three doubles courts plus one dedicated singles court. Indoor LED lighting through evening play. Roofed for full weather protection year-round. The fully enclosed build delivers competition-spec conditions and the singles court supports specialist 1-on-1 ranked play.
Booking and access
Court hire bookable through Playtomic on a pay-and-play basis. Open 6am to 10pm weekdays, 7am to 10pm weekends. Abbeydale location in south Sheffield, putting the venue inside reach of Dore, Totley, Hathersage and the wider Sheffield catchment with on-site parking via the Abbeydale Tennis Club site.
Closest stations: Dore & Totley (rail). The Abbeydale Tennis Club setting brings established multi-racquet facilities alongside the padel.
Programme and social
The Joe Root and Cameron Dawson backing has made Play Padel Sheffield one of the busiest padel venues in the north since opening, drawing regulars from across South Yorkshire and the wider Sheffield catchment. Daily mix-ins, beginner socials and structured group lessons run through the in-house coaching programme.
The singles court supports a competitive 1-vs-1 format that few UK venues offer at this scale. Group bookings, parties and corporate events handled directly through the venue. Tournament play through the calendar.
Best for
Sheffield, Dore, Totley, Hathersage, Chesterfield and the wider South Yorkshire catchment players who want premium indoor padel at the city’s first dedicated indoor club, competitive players using the singles court for ranked play, regulars combining padel with the wider Abbeydale Tennis Club setting, and players drawn by the Joe Root and Cameron Dawson backing.

I can’t say thank you enough to the whole team at Play Padel. I had booked a court for a family session and then messed up the time and turned up an hour late. They did everything they could to help us and managed to get us on a court for half an hour. They were very kind and I’ll definitely be back.
Lovely courts and fantastic staff, who surprised our son with a really generous birthday gift when they heard he was there for a birthday game of Padel. Will definitely play here again.
