About Birkdale Padel Club

Birkdale Padel Club is a new community padel venue at Victoria Park, Rotten Row, Birkdale, Southport PR8 2BZ. It sits just behind Penelope’s restaurant, around a mile from Southport town centre, with easy access from the A565 coast road and the A570.

Birkdale rail station is a short walk away on the Merseyrail Northern Line into Liverpool, making the club a genuinely walk-up, train-up option for Sefton and wider Merseyside players who want a padel game without a long drive.

The club is the flagship project of Sefton Padel, an independent local operator founded by Paul McComb. The team secured planning permission from Sefton Council in 2025 to build five padel courts on the site of the park’s old tennis courts.

Phase 1 opened in spring 2026 with two open-air courts. Three covered courts are due to follow by the end of summer 2026 as Phase 2. Court bookings run through the Playtomic app, and the project also kept three refurbished tennis courts on-site for free public use.

You can find current opening details and join the waiting list at the Birkdale Padel Club website.

The padel courts

Birkdale Padel Club has five panoramic padel courts in total. The first two are open-air courts that came online with Phase 1, while the remaining three are being built under a permanent covered structure as Phase 2 and are scheduled to be playable by late summer 2026.

The mix gives players both true outdoor padel in the warmer months and weather-protected play through the Merseyside winter. All courts are full-size doubles courts built to standard 20m x 10m specification with glass walls and synthetic grass surfaces.

LED floodlighting extends play into the evening on every court. Three traditional tennis courts have also been refurbished as part of the project and remain free for public use, sitting alongside the padel facility within Victoria Park.

Booking and access

Court bookings go through Playtomic. You can book a court on Playtomic directly from the app or web, choosing 60 or 90 minute slots across both open-air and covered courts as they come online.

Live rates are confirmed at the booking step. Sefton Padel positions pricing as an affordable, inclusive offer pitched below Greater Manchester and Liverpool city centre venues, with concessions for under-18s and blue light workers across standard bookable slots.

The venue is open daily from 7am until 10pm year-round, with off-peak slots typically the best value mid-morning and early afternoon. Standard Playtomic cancellation rules apply, so you can usually cancel without charge until a set window before your slot.

Two hours of free parking is available on Rotten Row, with capacity for 80-plus cars. Secure cycle storage is provided on-site, and changing rooms with showers, lockers and equipment vending machines round out the access offer.

For enquiries about memberships, block bookings or corporate slots, contact the club via the venue website or through the Sefton Padel team on Instagram @seftonpadel. New players can sign up to the waiting list to be notified when fresh peak-time slots open.

Padel programme and social play

Sefton Padel runs an active programme of mix-ins, beginner sessions and social nights at Birkdale, designed to help newcomers join the sport without needing a fixed group of four. Mixed-ability round robins, ladies-only nights and post-work social slots are appearing on the Playtomic schedule.

Junior padel is a clear priority. The club partners with Sefton schools to deliver free introductory sessions during term time and runs holiday coaching camps for under-18s through Easter, summer and half-term breaks.

Coaching at Birkdale Padel Club is delivered in-house by the Sefton Padel coaching team, with private and group lessons across all levels. See the coaching tab for tier pricing and what’s included. Tournaments and club-run leagues are planned once Phase 2 brings the covered courts online.

Best for

Birkdale Padel Club suits Southport, Formby and wider Sefton residents who want a genuine local padel club rather than a long drive into Liverpool or Manchester. The mix of covered and open-air courts, daily 7am to 10pm hours and Playtomic booking make it an easy choice for early-morning regulars and after-work doubles.

Families and juniors are particularly well served thanks to the schools partnership, holiday camps and under-18 concessions. It is less suited to players who want a full health club setting with gym, pool and spa.

The offer here is focused squarely on padel in Southport, coffee and community, with the wider Victoria Park grounds providing the leisure backdrop. The grab-and-go coffee kiosk, changing rooms with showers and outdoor seating round out a clean, no-frills club experience.
