Qatar Sports Investments
Qatar Sports Investments - QSI - is the Qatari state-owned investment group that backs Premier Padel as a joint venture with the International Padel Federation. QSI is the same group that owns Paris Saint-Germain football club and operates beIN Sports, the Doha-based sports broadcaster.
What is QSI?
Qatar Sports Investments is a Qatari state-owned investment vehicle focused on global sports assets. Its highest-profile holding is Paris Saint-Germain football club, owned since 2011. QSI also operates beIN Sports, the Doha-based broadcasting group. In 2022 QSI partnered with the FIP to launch Premier Padel as a new top-tier professional padel circuit.
The Premier Padel partnership
The Premier Padel tour is run as a partnership: QSI provides commercial backing, marketing and venue operations; the FIP provides sporting governance and integrates the tour into the official world ranking. The joint structure replaced the older WPT model where a single commercial promoter (Setpoint Events) owned the tour with FIP recognition but not joint operation.
Why padel
Padel’s rapid global growth, especially in Spain and Latin America (and increasingly the UAE and UK), made it an attractive investment for a sports group looking to back the fastest-growing racket sport. QSI’s involvement has accelerated padel’s commercial profile and underwritten the unified Premier Padel circuit.
Coach tip: Most padel fans encounter QSI only through Premier Padel branding. The tour itself is the visible product; QSI is the financial backer in the background. The structure resembles how the ATP runs men’s tennis - a federation-recognised tour with commercial-partner-led operations.
Common mistakes
Confusing QSI with the FIP itself is a common misunderstanding. QSI is the commercial partner; the FIP is the governing body. The two work together on Premier Padel but they are separate organisations with different missions and structures.
