Blackburn Northern Sports Club

Blackburn Northern Sports Club is a multi-sport club at Pleckgate Rd, Blackburn BB1 8QA, UK, with one outdoor padel court at the front of the club. The court opened in 2024 and is open to members and non-members, from £16 per court on Playtomic.

The club also runs hockey, squash and tennis sections, so padel sits alongside other club sports rather than in a standalone centre. With a single court, it suits players who want a straightforward game in Blackburn without the scale of a large commercial venue.

The courts

Blackburn Northern Sports Club has one padel court, an outdoor, panoramic doubles court. The panoramic glass gives clear sightlines from behind the back walls, so the court is good to watch as well as to play on. The doubles layout suits the standard four-player game.

The court is floodlit, so evening games carry on after dark through the autumn and winter months. It is an outdoor court with no roof, so the weather plays its part, and anyone booking in the colder months should dress for the conditions.

Rackets can be hired at the club, and racket hire is paid at the same time as the court booking. That makes it easy to bring along a friend who has never played without asking them to buy kit first.

Off court, there is free private parking, disabled access and wifi. The bar and clubhouse open when a member of the team is on site, giving players somewhere to sit down after a game.

Padel booking and access

The padel court at Blackburn Northern Sports Club is booked on Playtomic and is available to members and non-members alike. Pay-and-play visitors book a slot online in exactly the same way as club members, so no membership is needed to get on court.

Off-peak, Monday to Friday 9am to 2pm: £16 for 60 minutes, £24 for 90 minutes. Peak, Monday to Friday 2pm to 9pm: £26 for 60 minutes, £39 for 90 minutes.

Weekends are charged at the peak rate. Saturday 9am to 5pm: £26 for 60 minutes, £39 for 90 minutes. Sunday 10am to 4pm: £26 for 60 minutes, £39 for 90 minutes.

Prices are per court, not per player. For four players sharing the court, a peak hour at £26 works out at £6.50 each, and an off-peak hour at £16 comes to £4 each, so weekday daytime play is the best value slot on the court.

Padel programme and social

Padel coaching at Blackburn Northern Sports Club comes from Head Coach Jamie Hutchings on a pay-and-play basis. Individual lessons suit players who want focused work on their technique, and group sessions run on Wednesday evenings for beginner and intermediate players.

The Wednesday group sessions restarted on 15 April 2026. Beginners play from 7pm to 8pm and improvers from 8pm to 9pm. Each session costs £8 per person, paid on the night, with all equipment provided.

There is no need to book a group session: just turn up. The Wednesday beginner sessions are the simplest way into padel at the club, and the improvers hour gives a natural next step once the basics are in place.

Best for padel players

Blackburn Northern Sports Club suits beginners who want a relaxed start, thanks to the Wednesday group sessions with equipment provided. It also suits pay-and-play groups of four looking for good value off-peak games on weekday mornings and lunchtimes.

Players from the hockey, squash and tennis sections get a padel court on their own doorstep, while visiting groups benefit from the free parking and disabled access. Evening players have the floodlights to keep games going after dark.

With a single outdoor court, it is less suited to large group events or to players who want guaranteed indoor play in bad weather. For more options, browse padel clubs in Blackburn or padel clubs across Lancashire, and read the rules of padel before your first game.
