Padel United Stansted

Padel United Stansted sits inside Mountfitchet Romeera Leisure Centre on Forest Hall Road, Stansted Mountfitchet, Essex CM24 8TZ. The site is a short walk from Stansted Mountfitchet rail station and around fifteen minutes from Bishop’s Stortford by car.

The venue opened on 9 August 2025 as the tenth UK location for Padel United UK, built on disused tennis courts in partnership with 1Life Management Solutions and Uttlesford District Council. A free play week ran from 9 to 15 August to introduce the local community to padel.

Two covered panoramic doubles courts launched first, with a third panoramic court planned to land in 2026. The site runs on Playtomic for bookings, with electronic access so courts are open across the leisure centre’s operating hours.

The padel courts

There are two full-size 20m x 10m panoramic padel courts at Stansted, listed on Playtomic as Padel 1 and Padel 2. Both are crystal-glass courts with full-glass back walls for clear sightlines and spectator visibility from the fenceline.

The courts sit under a permanent canopy, which is why the chain describes them as covered for year-round play even though the wider compound is open-air. Floodlighting carries play through to the weekday 22:00 close, so evening sessions run through the British winter without weather closures.

The two-court setup is built around doubles and suits club nights, beginner groups and improvers from the Stansted, Bishop’s Stortford and wider Uttlesford catchment. A third panoramic court is in the pipeline for 2026, which should ease peak-time pressure on the existing pair.

Booking padel and access

All court bookings run through the venue’s official tenant page - book a court on Playtomic - in 60 or 90-minute slots. Live court rates show at the booking step, with public listings indicating £16 to £20 per court per hour at this site.

Opening hours are 07:00 to 22:00 Monday to Friday and 07:30 to 18:00 on Saturday and Sunday, matching the wider leisure centre operating window. Free parking is available on site, with overflow at the leisure centre car park.

Equipment hire is available through the leisure centre reception, so newcomers can turn up empty-handed and pick up a racket and balls at the desk. Cancellation rules and short-notice availability are shown live at the booking step on Playtomic.

Programme and social padel

Padel United Stansted runs a weekly programme of social mix-ins, beginner coaching slots and intermediate group nights, in line with the wider Padel United UK chain template used at sister venues in Maldon, Chelmsford and Colchester.

On-court coaching is led by Ben Welsford, a GB U-18 player who ran the opening day sessions and continues to deliver intro-to-padel slots, social mix-ins and improver clinics across the week. Academy pricing starts from around £6.50 per session for evening beginner training.

Best for padel at Padel United Stansted

Padel United Stansted suits Uttlesford and west-Essex players who want covered courts they can rely on through winter, beginners drawn to the chain’s affordable mix-in pricing, and visiting players from Bishop’s Stortford, Saffron Walden and the M11 corridor.

The cafeteria, changing rooms and disabled access make the leisure centre a comfortable base before and after play, and equipment hire at reception means first-timers can give padel a try with zero kit. Free parking on site keeps the door-to-court time short.

It is less ideal if you need a four-plus court roster for large socials at peak times, since the current setup is only two courts until the third lands in 2026, or if you only play singles, since the panoramic courts are sized and configured for doubles play.
