About Life Leisure Grand Central

Life Leisure Grand Central added Stockport’s first publicly bookable outdoor padel court in April 2025, sited at Stockport Exchange directly opposite the established Life Leisure Grand Central leisure centre. The court is operated by the leisure centre and bookable on a pay-and-play basis.

The courts

One outdoor synthetic grass padel court at the Stockport Exchange forecourt. Daylight-only operation - no floodlighting installed - so booking is sunrise-to-sunset and varies through the year. Pay-and-play access, racket hire on request through the leisure centre.

Booking and access

Bookings via Playtomic. Court hire runs £30 to £40 per hour. The Wellington Road South location puts the venue in central Stockport, walking distance from Stockport rail station and the wider town centre. The Life Leisure Grand Central leisure centre opposite has full pool, gym and cafe facilities for visitors.

Programme and social

The single-court setup means no in-house coaching programme - bookings are pay-and-play. The Life Leisure Grand Central operator runs the wider leisure centre programme (swimming, gym classes, fitness studios) and the padel court is integrated into that town-centre offer.

Best for

Stockport locals and town-centre players who want a quick walk-up court without driving to a flagship indoor venue. The Stockport Exchange forecourt setting puts the court a short walk from the train station and the wider Life Leisure Grand Central gym, pool and cafe.

My opinion applies to thermal suite only. I have not used other premises but the health suite - the worst I've seen in my life. And I really mean it. My first experience ended after couple of minutes with 2nd degree burns of my hand. Looking for the water hose to rinse the seat I touched uncovered (in steam room where visibility is limited) steam generator (I'm not sure but according to AI is should not be there at all). Weird that emergency stops are covered - even jacuzzi one. I don't blame the staff who gave their best to assist but in their first aid kit they had nothing for burn... by the way it appeared that there is no water hose in the steam room so it's very clean. I like to relax sitting in the sweat of dozen of men who were there before me. Still, I gave it one more chance. No burns this time but still... the facility seems very neglected. I've spent there ~2 hours and only once did someone drain the excess water from the floor. But it appeared it was another customer. The water in the jacuzzi is not being continuously filtered and refreshed. Every time the jacuzzi turned on, the same sand floated in the foam. See the pictures. At some point I found someone's pube floating close to my face but I'm afraid I don't have it's picture - i just jumped out of the water... Well, i don't know whether it was a pube or a leg hair. Anyway, still disgusting... No water in the tap. Toilet flush has not worked too for most time. But it was fixed when I was leaving...

Used to love taking my 18 month old to Oasis Splash on a weekday afternoon during term time, but opening hours have now changed to 12-2 (when most toddlers are napping) and then only open again after school. The toddler pool is absolute carnage after school and during holidays with so many older children and lifeguards doing nothing. Was also told last week that it was new policy not to help carry prams down the stairs, despite the fact the lift has been broken for a month. Not sure how a pregnant woman is supposed to carry a pram, swimming bags and a toddler but thank you to the kind man who helped anyway.

Slides and pool are fun for the kids, however, We arrived to a huge queue at reception. Ended up only having 40mins due to this then waited 30mins after we got out for a changing room as there wasnt enough rooms available. Doubt wel b returning.
