About Padel Project UK South Shields

Padel Project UK South Shields is the fifth club in the Padel Project UK network, sited at Westoe Rugby Club at 35 Dean Road, Westoe, South Shields NE33 4EA.

The venue brings five purpose-built padel courts to Tyne and Wear, a short walk from South Shields town centre and easily reached from the A194 and A19 corridor that links Newcastle, Gateshead and Sunderland.

The club was officially launched on Saturday 8 November 2025 by former England, Manchester City and Sunderland defender Joleon Lescott, who plays an active role in the Padel Project UK story.

The model is deliberately community-first: pay-and-play with no membership fees, an emphasis on coached intro sessions, and a partnership with the host rugby club. More on the venue is on the Padel Project UK South Shields page.

The padel courts

Padel Project UK South Shields has five outdoor panoramic padel courts laid out within the grounds of South Shields and Westoe Rugby Club. The courts are glass-back panoramic builds suited to doubles play, with synthetic grass surfaces and LED floodlights.

Floodlighting means evening sessions in winter are unaffected by the short Tyneside daylight hours, and the open layout gives players the panoramic views the centre is named for.

Rackets and balls are available on site if you turn up without kit, and the rugby club building provides toilets and indoor shelter when the clubhouse is open. Play runs from early morning through to 10pm.

Booking and access

All five courts are bookable through Playtomic on a pay-and-play basis with no membership required. Live availability and rates show at the booking step on Playtomic, and the venue also accepts bookings via padelprojectuk.com.

Court hire runs from around £12 per hour off-peak up to £28 per hour at peak. Off-peak covers weekdays 8am to 5pm; peak covers weekday evenings (5pm to 10pm) and weekend daytime (8am to 10pm).

A 60 minute slot at peak works out at roughly £7 per person across four players (£28 per court), and off-peak slots come in nearer £3 per person (£12 per court). Racket hire is available at the venue for a small additional charge and balls can be purchased on site.

Opening hours are 8:00 to 22:00 every day of the week. Cancellations follow the standard Playtomic policy shown at the booking step. The site has free on-site parking and step-free access from the car park to the courts.

For queries the venue can be reached on +44 7884 546954 (WhatsApp friendly) or by email at tim@padelprojectuk.com.

Padel programme and social

Padel Project UK South Shields runs free introductory sessions for first-time players, alongside open play, mix-ins and a structured calendar of social events at the venue.

The launch programme included an exhibition match with Joleon Lescott and a series of coached taster sessions, and that grassroots focus on bringing new players into the sport continues through the regular schedule.

Junior coaching and adult group sessions are part of the offer, with detail on the sessions page. Tournaments and ladder formats are added through the season.

The venue sits alongside Westoe Rugby Club’s bar and changing facilities, so post-match drinks and a hot shower are part of the matchday experience.

Best for padel in South Shields

Best for South Tyneside, Jarrow and Sunderland players who want a no-membership pay-and-play setup, beginners taking advantage of the free intro session, and groups of four looking for an affordable off-peak court.

The Westoe Rugby Club setting suits players who like a clubhouse atmosphere with food and drink after a match.

Less suited to players seeking indoor courts year-round - all five courts are outdoor, so heavy weather can interrupt play. Players wanting deep technical coaching from a named tour pro should check the sessions schedule first.

Padel Project UK South Shields is one of the venues on our padel clubs in Tyne and Wear page, where you can compare courts, prices and how to book.
