Racquet Garden

Racquet Garden is a countryside padel club at Thoulstone Park, Chapmanslade, Westbury BA13 4AQ, set in the rolling Wiltshire landscape between Bath and Warminster, just off the A36 and about ten minutes from Frome and Westbury.

The club opened as a new kind of sporting retreat, with three outdoor padel courts, a relaxed clubhouse cafe and bar, and an emphasis on community, slow living and the social side of the game. For full details and seasonal updates, visit racquetgarden.com.

The wider Thoulstone Park estate offers landscaped grounds, walking paths and ample on-site parking, so a session can easily roll into coffee, lunch or a quiet drink without leaving the gardens. Players come from Frome, Westbury, Warminster, Trowbridge and Bath.

The padel courts

Racquet Garden has three outdoor padel courts laid out within the gardens at Thoulstone Park. The courts are panoramic glass and steel structures with artificial-turf surfaces, set among planted borders rather than fenced into a car park, which gives play a different feel from a typical urban club.

All three courts are floodlit for evening play and remain bookable into the late slots through autumn and winter. As outdoor courts they are weather-dependent, and cancellations in heavy rain or high winds are handled through the booking platform.

A small indoor pickleball court is also available on site for players who want to combine sports during a single visit.

Booking and access

Court bookings run through PadelMates, the venue’s online booking partner. Players can book a padel court at Racquet Garden on PadelMates via the web or the PadelMates app, with live court availability shown at the booking step.

Court hire rates typically range from around £20 to £32 per court per hour depending on time of day and day of week, with off-peak weekday slots at the lower end and peak evenings and weekends at the upper end. Racket hire is £3 per session at the clubhouse, and balls can be purchased on site.

Opening hours are 8am to 10pm every day of the week, including weekends and bank holidays. Free parking is available across the Thoulstone Park estate. The club is best reached by car via the A36 between Bath, Warminster and Salisbury, with Westbury railway station around fifteen minutes’ drive away.

Programme and social padel

The club runs a regular Introduction to Padel session on Thursdays at 6pm, covering rules, scoring, positioning and the basics of how to play. The session is designed for complete beginners, is friendly and social in tone, and includes racket hire and balls.

Alongside the intro nights, Racquet Garden hosts beginner coaching sessions and uses an active WhatsApp community to help new players find others at their level, organise informal mix-ins and share court openings.

The clubhouse cafe and bar is the social hub between matches, serving coffee, cake and light food in a setting that suits both quick post-game catch-ups and longer afternoons in the gardens. Further details on getting started are on the venue’s New to Padel page.

Best for padel in Wiltshire

Racquet Garden suits players who want a calmer, more pastoral take on padel: nature-loving beginners, families, wellness-minded visitors and small groups looking to combine a game with food and drink in the gardens.

Local players from Frome, Westbury, Warminster, Trowbridge and Bath will find it one of the more distinctive padel destinations in Wiltshire. It is less suited to players who need indoor courts in all weathers or late-night league fixtures running past 10pm.

For everyone else, the three outdoor courts, friendly clubhouse and rural setting make Racquet Garden a strong base for regular social padel in the Wiltshire countryside.

Racquet Garden runs beginner-focused coaching, including a weekly Introduction to Padel session on Thursdays at 6pm that covers rules, scoring and positioning. Racket hire and balls are included for intro and beginner sessions.
