What is MATCHi?

MATCHi is a digital platform for booking padel courts and matching players by skill level, founded in Sweden in 2015. It operates in Europe (strongest in Sweden, the Netherlands, the UK, Germany and Belgium) and is the most common alternative to Playtomic in those markets. Clubs partner with MATCHi to handle online court booking and player matchmaking.

The rating system

MATCHi maintains a 1-to-7 player level scale that adjusts after every recorded match. New players start at a default level (usually 2 or 3) and the system raises or lowers the rating based on results against other rated players. The scale is broadly comparable to Playtomic’s 0-to-7 scale but the two are not officially convertible.

How clubs use it

Many UK and European padel clubs integrate MATCHi as their primary booking system. Players sign up for an account, set their preferred level, and book courts directly through the app or via club websites that white-label MATCHi. Some clubs offer level-segmented sessions (beginner-only, intermediate, advanced) using MATCHi’s rating system to gate entry.

Coach tip: If you play at a MATCHi club, log every match through the platform - even informal ones. The more matches MATCHi sees, the more accurate your rating becomes, which means better matchmaking. Players who skip the logging end up with inaccurate ratings that produce mismatched games.

Common mistakes

Treating your MATCHi rating as a tournament seed is the dominant amateur mistake. MATCHi ratings are matchmaking tools, not official LTA Padel or FIP rankings. Tournament organisers use LTA Padel ratings or FIP world ranking for sanctioned events; MATCHi is for club play.

Where is MATCHi most popular?
Sweden (where the platform is founded), the Netherlands, the UK, Germany and Belgium. The platform is the most common alternative to Playtomic in northern Europe. Clubs choose between the two based on regional integration and feature preferences.
Can I convert my MATCHi rating to a Playtomic rating?
Not officially. The two platforms maintain their own rating systems and neither publishes an official conversion. Our levels guide includes an approximate cross-platform table, but verified ratings on either platform should not be substituted for the other.
How do I improve my MATCHi rating?
Win matches against players rated at or above your current level. Each win adjusts the rating slightly upward; each loss slightly downward, weighted by the opponent’s level. Playing four to six matches a month is enough to keep the rating accurate.
