Matchbox Pickleball

Matchbox Pickleball is a purpose-built racket-sports club at Unit 1-2 East Bank Road, Newport NP19 4PP, in the Lliswerry area on the east bank of the Usk. The venue opened in 2026 as Wales’ first dedicated pickleball facility.

A single indoor panoramic padel court sits inside the same purpose-built shell, with Playtomic handling reservations for matchbox pickleball padel sessions alongside pickleball and golf simulator bays. The site sits a short drive from junction 24 of the M4, with free on-site parking and step-free access into the main hall.

The club is positioned as a modern community hub rather than a leisure-centre add-on. Members and casual players share the same coffee bar, social seating and remote-work areas between matches.

The padel courts

There is one indoor padel court at Matchbox, listed on Playtomic as Padel 1. It is built to the standard 20m x 10m doubles footprint with panoramic glass back walls.

The court sits under the same permanent roof as the pickleball courts and golf simulators. Play is unaffected by Newport weather and lighting is consistent year-round through overhead LED rigs.

The single-court setup keeps the venue intimate for padel. Group bookings tend to lock the court for a full session rather than splitting between courts, which suits a fixed group of four playing back-to-back sets.

Walls are toughened glass on the back and side returns, with mesh fencing higher up to keep balls in play. Padel rackets and balls can be hired at the front desk for players new to the sport.
