What makes a good padel shoe

Padel courts are artificial grass with sand brushed into the fibres, and that sand is the whole reason padel shoes exist as a category. It grips differently from a tennis court and it chews through soles a good deal faster.

Grip mattered most to us, because the sole has to do two things that pull against each other. It needs to bite hard enough for you to push off from a standing start, then release before your knee takes the strain. After that came the way a shoe holds your heel and ankle when you lunge sideways, then fit, and only then price.

What you want underfoot is a zigzag tread, which the trade calls herringbone, or the mix of zigzag and small studs that brands label omni or hybrid. Either does the job. A flat hard-court tennis sole does not, and you will know about it the first time you change direction in a hurry.

1. Asics Gel-Resolution X Padel, best overall

This is still the shoe we hand to anyone whose ankles took a beating on a tennis court. Asics has built the sides up into a stiff wall, so the foot cannot roll over the edge of the sole when you load it sideways. The laces pull across the top of the foot rather than straight down, which holds the instep without pressing on it, and a soft foam layer underneath takes the landing.

The sole is where it earns the money. It is one piece of hard-wearing rubber in a zigzag tread, with a cap over the toe for anyone who drags a foot on their serve. It weighs around 365 g in a size 10.5, which is mid-pack, and the shoe is cut narrow, so wider feet should look at the Bullpadel further down.

What you get: Full-length AHAR Plus modified herringbone outsole, FF BLAST PLUS ECO midsole, DYNAWALL sidewall, PGuard toe protector, snug medium width.

Who it is for: Players on court three times a week or more who want the most supportive shoe going and will pay for it.

What other players say

Stability is what everyone comes back to, and the weight is the trade-off for it, because a shoe with that much structure around the foot is never going to feel quick. Two things to know before you order: it is cut narrow, and Asics does not make a wide version of the padel model, only of the tennis one.

2. Adidas Crazyquick BOOST Padel, best cushioned shoe

Adidas came to padel late, announcing this range in October 2024 and putting it on sale that December, and the BOOST sits at the top of it. It is the softest shoe here underfoot. The springy foam Adidas uses in its running shoes takes the impact, and a cage around the midfoot holds everything together. There is also a turning point moulded into the sole under the ball of the foot.

That turning point is why this belongs in a padel guide and the Barricade does not, because padel asks you to pivot on the spot far more often than tennis does. It is not a light shoe at around 407 g in a size 10.5, which surprises people given how soft it feels.

What you get: Multi-directional rubber outsole with a forefoot pivot point, BOOST midsole, Slingframe upper, TPU mid-foot stabiliser, Adituff toe reinforcement, at least 20 per cent recycled materials, UK 3.5 to 13.5.

Who it is for: Heavier players, anyone who feels padel in their knees, and regulars who want cushioning without giving up the support around the sides.

Fit is the thing to check. Adidas says the shoe runs true to size, while Tennis Warehouse Europe calls it slightly narrow with a flat toe box and a low arch. If you have a high instep or a wide foot, order somewhere with free returns. (source)

3. Adidas Crazyquick Padel, the best £100 shoe

Same upper, same padel sole, £40 less, and a firmer and lower foam underneath instead of the springy stuff, which means you feel the court rather than floating over it. For most club players that is the better shoe of the two, and it is the one we point people at first.

Adidas has made the name a mess, so read carefully at the checkout. The men’s shoe is listed as Crazyquick Padel, the women’s as Crazyquick Lightstrike Padel, and some retailers shorten the whole thing to Crazyquick LS, but all three are the same shoe. No BOOST in the name and around £100 on the ticket means you have found it.

Adidas publishes no weight for anything in this range, so when people say the Crazyquick is lighter than the BOOST they are talking about how it feels rather than what it measures.

4. Head Motion Pro 1.5 BOA, best lockdown

Do not confuse it with the cheaper laced Motion Pro, because this is a different animal. Instead of laces it has two small dials on the side, and twisting them pulls the whole upper closed evenly rather than pressing hard wherever the laces happen to cross. Nothing else in this guide holds the foot as well.

Head developed the sole with Mondo, the company that makes sports surfaces, and says the shoe is designed for artificial grass, which is exactly what British clubs lay. The sides are reinforced against rolling over and there is a stiff plate through the middle of the foot, with a moulded cap over the toe.

What you get: Mondo-developed outsole, BOA Dual Li2 closure, Lateral Control+ sidewall, 3D-TPU midfoot shank, Drift Defense moulded toe cap, midfoot cooling, UK 3.5 to 13.

Rating: 3.8/5

Price and where to buy: £185 RRP, though nobody charges that. In October 2026, Padel Nuestro had the white BOA version at £105.91. Padel Nuestro also had the laced Motion Pro 1.5 in white at £76.24, and Padel Market had it in dark blue at £117.99 and the entry-level Motion Team 1.5 at £55.99. It is also on Amazon.

Who it is for: Anyone whose foot slides about inside the shoe when they change direction, or who has rolled an ankle and wants the shoe to hold. Skip it if a dial sounds like one more thing to break.

What other players say

Retailers lead on the dials and on the Mondo connection. That connection is the strongest hint at durability any brand here offers, since Mondo spends its life making the surfaces that destroy soles. One oddity worth knowing is that Padel Market was clearing an older Motion Pro BOA at £77.99 against a £190.99 list price, so a suspiciously cheap Head is probably last season’s.

5. Bullpadel Hack Vibram 26V, best grip and durability

This is Paquito Navarro’s shoe, and it is the one that used to appear here under a name Bullpadel has never used. The sole is made by Vibram, the company that puts the rubber on walking boots. It mixes the zigzag tread with small studs, which works whether you plant your foot or slide into the ball.

It is also the heaviest shoe in the guide at 431 g in a size 10.5, and the roomiest, since retailers describe it as running wider across the toes than other Bullpadels. Nobody sells a shoe made specifically for padel in a wide fitting in the UK, so this is the closest thing to one.

What you get: Vibram hybrid outsole with herringbone and micro studs, technical mesh upper with rubber on the medial side, injected rubber toe, wider forefoot, 431 g in a US 10.5.

Rating: 4.4/5

Price and where to buy: The list price is £155 to £160 depending on the retailer. In October 2026, Padel Nuestro had it from £83.87 and Padel Market from £108.99. The 26I autumn colours were also in at Padel Nuestro by October 2026. It is also on Amazon.

Who it is for: Players who wear soles out, players with wide feet, and anyone learning to slide. Not the shoe if you want to feel quick.

What other players say

Two things come up wherever it is sold, which are that Vibram is the benchmark for lasting in padel and that the weight is what you pay for it. The wide toe box comes from retailers’ descriptions rather than Bullpadel’s, so order somewhere with free returns if you are between sizes. Bullpadel also prices its UK store in euros, which is why the list price moves around.

6. Asics Sonicsmash FF, best under £100

The Sonicsmash FF is the newest Asics padel shoe and the cheapest way into the brand. It sits on a zigzag sole with grooves cut across it, and the mesh upper makes it one of the coolest shoes here, which matters in summer or in hot climates.

Unlike the narrow Gel-Resolution X, it comes in a standard width, so it suits more feet straight out of the box.

What you get: Zigzag padel sole with cross grooves, mesh upper, standard width, men’s sizes.

Price and where to buy: £118.62 list, and from £80.48 at Padel Nuestro in October 2026, so about $106 or €95.

Who it is for: Beginners and once-a-week players, and anyone who wants a light, breathable Asics without paying for the Gel-Resolution X.

Honourable mentions

Babolat Premura 3 - £136 list, and £84.72 at Padel Nuestro in October 2026, so about $112 or €100. Michelin makes the rubber, which tells you what it is for. Babolat is also the only brand here that runs any kind of sole warranty, and it is a narrow one. Six months, on its American help site, covering a tennis shoe rather than any padel model, and only if you wear the sole clean through.

Wilson Hurakn Pro V2 - £110.15 list, and £67.77 at Padel Nuestro in October 2026, so about $90 or €80. At 332 g in a size 10.5 it is the lightest shoe here, on hard-wearing rubber with a recycled upper.

Nox AT10 Lux - £122.86 list, and £84.72 at Padel Nuestro in October 2026, so about $112 or €100. Nox reinforces the sides against rolling and claims a certification from a Spanish footwear institute, which is the brand’s own claim.

K-Swiss Ultra Court Padel - £118.62 list, and from £76.24 at Padel Nuestro in October 2026, so about $100 or €90. Extra rubber over the toe and heel where shoes wear through first. Retailers recommend it for wide feet, and it runs half a size small.

Joma Slam 26 - £69.99 at Padel Market for the 2025 Slam in October 2026, about $94 or €81, with the newer Slam Classic from £75.99. The Slam 26 has a sole covered in round studs rather than a zigzag tread.

What to know before you buy padel shoes

Four things decide whether a shoe suits you, in this order: the pattern on the sole, how well it holds your foot sideways, the width, and how long it lasts. Price comes a long way down that list.

The sole is the whole game

Almost every court you will play on in Britain is artificial grass with silica sand brushed into it, laid over a pile about a centimetre deep. That loose sand is what the sole has to work with, and it is why padel shoes are a category of their own.

A zigzag tread cuts through the sand to the grass underneath, then lets go cleanly when you change direction. The stud-and-zigzag mixes do much the same job. Running shoes are the one outright mistake, because their tread grips far too well and the foot holds when it should be sliding, which is how people hurt knees and ankles on a padel court.

Tennis shoes are not padel shoes

Clay court tennis shoes will do at a push, because the tread is close to what padel needs. Hard court shoes will not. The two look near identical on the shelf, and the shop will not always tell you which you are holding.

Nike is the clearest case of the confusion. It makes no padel shoe at all, yet its own padel category is full of clay court tennis models. Those product pages say the shoe is designed for wear on clay and padel court surfaces. The hard court versions of the same models say nothing of the kind.

If you play more than once a week, buy a shoe made for padel.

Sideways support matters more than cushioning

Padel is a side-to-side game, and the way you hurt an ankle is by rolling the foot over the edge of the sole when you change direction at speed. A stiff wall built into the sides of the shoe stops that happening, and every brand has its own name for it: Asics DYNAWALL, Head Lateral Control+, Adidas Slingframe, Nox Lateral Support. They all do the same job. Cushioning is comfort, whereas that wall is insurance.

Sizing and width

Nobody sells a shoe made specifically for padel in a wide fitting in the UK. The wide Asics Gel-Resolution X is the tennis version rather than the padel one, and the wide Babolats are tennis shoes too, which leaves you with workarounds.

The Bullpadel Hack Vibram 26V has the roomiest front end, and the K-Swiss Ultra Court is another shoe often recommended for wide feet. Both Asics and Adidas cut their padel shoes narrow, the Sonicsmash FF is a standard width, and K-Swiss runs half a size small. When to replace your padel shoes

Sand chews through rubber. Specialist retailers put a padel shoe at 60 to 100 hours of play, which is six to twelve months if you are on court twice a week. No governing body publishes a figure at all.

The shoe tells you anyway. Once the tread has gone smooth, or you can feel the court through the heel, replace it, because a worn sole slides when you are not expecting it to.

Playing in hot or humid climates

In Bali, Dubai or any Gulf club in summer, go for a mesh upper and low weight, because a heavy shoe traps heat and brings blisters on faster. From this guide the Asics Sonicsmash FF and the Wilson Hurakn Pro V2 are the two we would take, one for the mesh and the other for weighing 332 g.
